Boot up from a floppy, you'll need the following progs: fdisk & format

Run fdisk first to set up the C drive and make it active, next (after reboot) run format to format the drive, then install an OS.

Well.... you might try posting your question separately - it's fairly painless and will get more responses.
That being said, check your BIOS settings to ensure that the computer has an entry for your c: drive. If it doesn't, and you don't have 'auto-detect' then you'll have to enter the numbers by hand. If that doesn't work, there's always the chance that the drive is dead or the cables are loose, broken etc.
It's hard to be more specific without more information.

When FDISK tells you "no fixed disk present" the drive is bad, the power cable is not hooked up or the ribbon cable is not hooked up right.
You have to go to the bottom of the DOS section to post your own question.

I have a Compaq LTE 286 computer and I am trying to get it to operate properly, could anyone tell me what are the best operating systems for it and whether or not this particular computer has any kind of harddrive on it? Basically, it would help if someone knew as much as possible about this computer, because, unfortunately, I don't. Your info and answers will be geatly appreciated>

Try posting your question separately

or.. do a search at google.com

pretty ancient machine... but it should have a hard drive - at least originally.

You can use DOS 6.22 or earlier - really doesn't matter, 5 or 6 are the best for memory management and extras - if there is any extended memory to manage.

When you repost, you'll need to be a little less vague about what you are trying to do with this machine, as compared to what you've been able to get it to do so far.
