How do i stop or kill an internet connection from dos (pc windows98se)and start it from dos as well i'm connected 24hours and instead of shutting down or unplugging the cable i wonder if
there is a dos command for it. Note i would much rather manually do it then using a program (firewalls etc). Any help or suggestion are appreciated thx!

you could try disconnecting the com port, by writing to uart/pic (if thats what your using to connect to the internet)
But its not a very neat way!

No i'm on a external cable modem if i'm not totally wrong uart is for dial-up right?
But i will try it anyway and see..there must be away to disconnect the cable modem through dos....i have asked around but without luck so far but i bet there is a way considering all other things you can do through dos. Thx for the tip though! More suggestions are welcomed!

Hm ... as Windows treats DOS programs you probably won't be able to make it work - as for if you had a serial modem, you can't disconnect it from a DOS program as it isn't allowed access to the hardware Uart's ports while a Windows program is using them. I am sure that some corresponding error would occur for a cable modem.
I think you will have to write a Windows program to do it, or find one that does. Does it nessecarily need to be done from an MS-DOS prompt?

No it hasen't have to be done through dos but i just thought that i´t would be neat
to disconnect and connect through dos without an external program :-)By the way how would the uart/pic command exactly look like at the command prompt if i had a ordinary dialup modem?
As for cable it seems to be another ballgame alltogether...however is it possible to disconnect the cable through windows without a reboot? I think it's like you say i would have to write a program for that or why not get zonealarm (firewall) that has that feature....
Thx for your input!
