Hi -

I'm not having much luck in making a network boot disk for a 3c90x nic. I keep running into the following error:

ERROR: unable to access Protocol Manager
ERROR: Initialization failure. Driver not installed.

This occurs despite the fact that protman.exe is on the disk, along with the necessary ptotocol.ini and card-specific driver files. What am I missing here???
(FYI, I can get the card loaded with novell packet drivers, but since this will be used for IP multicasting with Ghost, this doesn't help much).

Thanks in advance -
JB

Turn off the plug n play, or win95 OS feature in the computer's cmos setup. This feature when on, won't let the nic card set itself in dos (16 bit) mode.

I am going to make a guess, you are trying
to make a disk that will load an IP (TCP/IP)
stack. And you are trying to use an NDIS2
driver.
If all of this is true, are there any more
requirements? NT authentication?

If you are trying to make a network boot disk to connect to Win NT, try this link...http://support.3com.com/infodeli/inotes/techtran/b8da_5ea.htm

Hi -

Thanks for all the responses -
Unfortunately, the PnP was already disabled in the BIOS. I also haven't yet tried out the suggestions from 3com, although they do look promising.
To Just Me - To the best of my understanding, this machine will only need to obtain an ip address from dhcp, and will not need NT authentication or any other sort of authentication (outside of Norton Ghost's requirements).

Thanks again - -
JB

I have a useable network boot disk. It will obtain an IP from a dhcp server. If you would like a copy let me know where to send it.

Just Me -

Send the disk's contents to my email address - jblancato@yahoo.com. I'm assuming I can just add the necessary files for my nic card...
Thanks very much!

Why don't you use Ghost to make the appropriate boot disks? It has a built-in utility to do that.

I have a working Ghost multicast boot disk for the 3C90x if you need a copy.
I also desparately need one for a Dell laptop using a NE2000 compatible PCMCIA nic. My disk works on an older Toshiba but not on the Dell although the bindings look good, there is no TCP/IP connectivity - anyone help?
