I created a network boot disk using the Client administrator. Chose Etherlink III as my adapter. Actually using PCI Etherlink III. copied PCI driver to NET directory and edited the protocol.ini to refer to the new driver. At NET INITIALIZE I get:
"3Com DOS Etherlink III Network Driver v2.0
Error: Network adapter not found or not responding.
Error: Initialization failure. Driver will not be installed.

This is my first attempt to create a network boot disk. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

you need to edit system.ini file so it looks
for the PCI Etherlink III driver
(ie.)
[network drivers]
netcard=A:\NET\HPTX.DOS

then edit protocol.ini file for the name of the driver
(ie.)
[ms$elnk]
drivername=HPTX$
INTERRUPT=3
IOADDRESS=0x300

Hope this will do

try setting the network adapter using the 3c5x9cfg.exe utility from 3com to match the interrupt and i/o addresses after disabling plug and pray.
Don't forget:
net initialize
netbind.com
aumb.com
tcptsr.exe
tinyrfc.exe
nmtsr.exe
emsbfr.exe
If you can't get it to work, send me an email and i'll send you the a self-extracting file that will do the trick.

Hi,

I have created an NT Boot Disk for connecting to an NT server over a TCP-IP network, so that I can access the NT Server's share via a mapped drive and then run GHOST to get an image of my laptop's hard disk. The problem I've encountered is when booting off a floppy and trying to use the 3Com 3C589D PCMCIA NIC for networking... it seems that the Card and Socket Service drivers for Win95 (csmapper.SYS & carddrv.exe), in addition to the rest of the network drivers (here's my Config.sys):
BUFFERS=40
files=60
stacks=64,512
DEVICE=A:\drvspace.SYS
DEVICE=A:\NET\HIMEM.SYS
DOS=HIGH,UMB
devicehigh=a:\net\ifshlp.sys
device=A:\csmapper.SYS
device=A:\carddrv.exe /slot=2
DEVICE=A:\NET\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
lastdrive=z

cause the boot process to run out of memory!

Here's my autoexec.bat:

path=a:\net
lh a:\net\net initialize
lh a:\net\netbind.com
lh a:\net\umb.com
lh a:\net\tcptsr.exe
lh a:\net\tinyrfc.exe
lh a:\net\nmtsr.exe
lh a:\net\emsbfr.exe
a:\net\net start
net use z: \\myNTserver\myshare

Please note that I can successfully connect to the NT server if I do not use the PCMCIA based NIC, and use a Xircom Pocket Ethernet Adapter card via the Parallel Port. But this is *extremely* slow in terms of throughput and causes large amounts of packet collisions on my network hub. I have tried moving some or all network drivers into High Memory Area, but to no avail! I have also tweaked the BUFFERS, FILES & STACKS entries in the CONFIG.SYS, but that too lead nowhere!

If someone is successful in loading all the above drivers, including the PCMCIA Card & Socket Services, and connecting to an NT Server share, I would be grateful if you would provide me with a disk image of your boot disk. I'm tired of tweaking every config.sys setting without any success!

Thanks,

me2fast@usa.net

I am running ghost on an nt server. Created a ghost boot disk using the multicast assistant and edited the drivers for the new 3com 3c90x nic. When I boot the pc, the boot disk finds the card but wont bind, so I can't connect to the ghost server. Netbind is on the bootdisk. Any suggestions?

Erin,
I use Norton Ghost (non Enterprise edition). I have created a ghost boot disk with an associated NIC driver disk which supports a variety of NIC drivers including 3COM 3c905, 3c905b, 3c905b-tx, 3c905c-tx. I ***NEVER*** had a problem using any of these drivers when booting a computer (DELL- or Quantex) which had a NIC ***CARD***.

We now use DELL Precsion 420 for our new workstations. It has a ***built-in*** NIC. The built-in NIC is compatible with 3c905C-TX. Some of the time, the network software install sequence stalls at netbind.com, sometimes it does not.

What computer are you using and what 3c90x nic are you using? 3c905C-tx?

Did anyone answer your question about why netbind does not bind?

I am trying to set up a DOS boot disk to use the Accton EN1207D-TX series 10-100 MB PCI network card to boot to our Windows NT network server so I can use a ghost program to load multiple machines. We just got in a shipment of 30 IBM NetVista 2276 mini-tower pcs using this card. I have made some progress, between the ACCTON web site FAQ section and a tech support rep who e-mailed me several files. But I can't make it work all the way. Right now I am having a problem getting the TCPTSR to load. The error message I get is:

"NET0109: TCP is not loaded - detected by TCP.
Unloadable TCP 1.0 not loaded."

After that comes an error message on "TINYRFC.exe" which, I assuem is related to the TCPTSR error. I have not gone any further than this. The TCPTSR.exe file that I am using is 71,040 in size and is dated 10-14-96 1:38a.

Can anyone be of assistance??

Thank you.
