hi,
does anybody know how to send messages with NET SEND over the internet?
i've tried to send messages to my buddy's ip.
net send ip message?
this doesn't work for me. just can net send in my own LAN.
make sure you do not forget the quotation marks around the message. also, make sure you have the right ip address (the person may be behind a proxy server).

Uh, some basic misunderstandings here.
1. NET SEND uses NetBIOS. NetBIOS is a non-routeable protocol. It will only work within your local segment, on segments separated from you by a repeater but NOT to the other side of a router or bridge.
2. NET SEND uses NetBIOS names, not IP addresses.
3. NET SEND does NOT require quotes around the message.

Ouch! It looks like technology passed me by (one more time).
Contrary to what I say in #2 above, the NET SEND command WILL accept IP addresses, however I have not confirmed that I can NET SEND to a host outside of my network via an IP address.
As to whether your message can be received, I suspect it will require your recipient to be running the Messenger service.
