I have an ESS ES1868 sound card. It works ok in Win95, but I can't get sound in DOS. I think that I can get the driver from the ESS homepage, but I don't know how to install it successfully. I know it's a cheesy card, but it's the best I can do! An Elite commander thanks you in advance for your advice.

Hi,

If you have drivers from ESS just run Setup.exe and all changes to Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files will be done automaticaly (you will need of course supply IRQ, DMA, Port and some other values). Then (if you have PNP motherboard) enter CMOS setup and set option "PNP OS installed" to NO (if you have such option in CMOS), because ESS1868 drivers not works with this option set to Yes.

Good luck, Igor M

Hi,

If you got drivers from ESS site there must be Setup.exe file. Boot in Dos Prompt Only mode (or reboot Windows in MS-DOS Emulatrion mode) and run Setup.exe. Then enter CMOS Setup and make sure you have PnP OS Installed option set to NO (with this option set to Yes ESS1868 drver hangs up while booting).

Good luck, Igor M

It sounds like a compaq sound card. The compaq site will have the drivers you need.
Use there search button and type in your sound card you have it will find it.
