I got up this morning & turned on my pc & the screen lighted up a bright blue with vertical lines going across the screen. I was trying to figure out if it was the monitor or video card. I have 3 pc's so I took the monitor off one of the others & hooked it up to that pc & it worked fine. So I know it is the monitor. My question is should I just go buy a new monitor or get this one fixed. I bought it in 1996 a svga monitor made by Daewoo.

Go buy a new one. You can get 15" monitors for as little as $120 these days. You can even find 17" monitors that cheap if you look for rebates. Repairing a monitor will almost always cost at least $100.

Thanks for the advice. A weird thing happened a few minutes ago with this monitor. I swapped out monitor cables with new ones I just bought from Office Depot. Turned it on still blue screen with vertical lines. I said oh well thats not it either. I was planning on going to just buy one this Saturday. Anyway, I just left the pc on with the the blue screen/lines etc. I went to go eat breakfast, came back, & it had gone into standby mode. I pressed enter to get the screen to light back up & the monitor functioned perfectly. I dont understand it. I turned it off, waited a few minutes, & turned it back on & the picture was still great. I dont know what happened. The monitor though, might still be going bad, I will leave it on & see if it happens again.

Sarah,
I've had monitors that worked fine for the first few minutes they were on and got worse as time progressed, and I've had monitors that looked horrible when first turned on but got progressively better. I think it has something to do with being warmed up or not. Something to do with expanding of metals and what not. Weird. At any rate congrats on not having to shell out money for a new monitor.

Michael,
You are so right. I just got off of work. Turned on the monitor. Guess what. Problem reoccured. Blue screen vertical lines. Left it on for 10 minutes & the screen returned to normal. So like you said, I think it has something to do with it being warmed up or not. Regardless though, I'm going to buy a new one because when I have something to get done I dont have time to wait till the monitor warms up before I can start working.
Thanks for your help.

You've only had the monitor for 4 years, it should still be under warranty. The problem you are talking about is a part failure. If you can find the original bill of sale, you should be able to have it repaired or replaced for free.
