You need a copy of MSCDEX.exe and CPQIDECD.SYS on your C: drive. Look in C:\DOS for them. You then need the following lines added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS.

AUTOEXEC.BAT
LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX.exe /S /D:IDECD001

CONFIG.SYS
DEVICEHIGH =C:\DOS\CPQIDECD.SYS /D:IDECD001

If all you need is to have your system boot to dos with cd-rom support, grab a diskette and then:

Format the disk and make it bootable (insert the diskette, open a dos prompt, at the c:\> type format a: /s

Next ... open Notepad and type in the following:
@echo on
a:\mscdex.exe /d:idecd001 /l:d

save the file to the a:\ drive as autoexec.bat (note: l:d is the letter L not i or 1)

Next create another file using notepad, type in the following:
lastdrive=f
device=a:\cpqidecd.sys /d:idecd001

save this file to the a:\ drive (to the diskette) as config.sys

NOTE: you need to have the following to files on the a:\ diskette for this to work:
cpqidecd.sys
mscdex.exe
(you should be able to find the mscdex.exe on your hard drive, if you don't have the cpqidecd.sys file, search the web for it.)

Make sure the diskette is in your A:\ drive, re-boot and once your PC is up the cdrom will be your D:\ drive

One last thing: your PC will be in dos mode ... no long file names (8 letter names), DO NOT run any disk repair programs as they might mess up your files with long names.

GOOD LUCK
