I owned an old Nixdorf-Laptop (80286), upgraded the processor to an 80386 and wanted to change the hard drive. The problem: The Bios just allow a 20 or 40 MB drive, no parameters can be typed in. I printed out the Bios (2 Eprom) and now I am searching, how to change the drive parameters in the Eproms or CMOS directly. How to localize the address the parameters are??? - Nixdorf (now Siemens-Nixdorf) doesn't have any informations about this. The Laptop is an "NIXDORF PC17" with Award-bios "0N3.03NFS" from 1988(!). Please help, if you can... :-((

Sounds to me as if you need Bios update via new EpRom, But where from for a machine of that age is beyond me. Sounds like the BiOs is just too old and tired. It wasn't designed with big drives in mind.

I have a Ibm ps note 425 with the same problem, can't change hard drive paramiters in bios setup. There were 10 diferent models each with a diferent size hard drive. So if you wanted a bigger hard drive you bought a diferent model.

With "EZ-DRIVE" the problem no longer is one. All hard-drives can be installed without knowing the parameters or changing the bios.
Thanks for your responses. Bernie.
