Hello, can anyone help me. I need info to setup bios, cmos setup info for nec prospeed 386 notebook computer. what keys do i use to go to setup?

I am trying to set up a Nec ProSpeed 386 Laptop. It has lost the bios seetings. The battery seems to be working now. I have tried all the setup menu key combinations and think that it requires a setup disk instead. I got one from the Nec Australia site (L3hwsets.exe). However, I have not gotten it to work properly. It is a compressed disk. It formats a target disk and then hangs up.

I asked Nec Technical Support for internet sources of information about the ProSpeed 386 Laptop.
They asked me to telephone:
Legacy Product Support (978) 742-7051
They didn't say if there would be a charge in addition to the phone call.

I have the Prospeed setup program. If you still need it let me know.
Also if you have any experience on upgrading please let me know. Apparently the hard disk has a different connector arrangement than current drives for notebooks.

Hi,
Several people in Europe sent me various setup programs for the hard drive. I still have to try them out.
I got some North American setup programs from the Nec ftp site, but they do not give a way to change the hard drive settings.
I would appreciate it if you could send me your setup program so that I can try it out.
I think that my 40 meg hard drive is kaput, so I probably need a program which will allow setting for a large hard drive.
Many thanks for your reply.Art,

hi
hope you can help me i have a prospeed386
and i need a boot disk for it .can you please send me a copy of yours

I know that Ctrl + Alt + del will get you into at least part of CMOS setup, but are there any other key combos that get you into any other part of the setup? For example, how would one enable/disable the serial, modem or paraller ports?

I have a Leading Edge (NEC) D/LT386SX Plus laptop. Runs DOS 5 under Windows 3.11. It needs a file called FX_IMAGE.DLL. I would be happy to send/exchange any other file that may be usful to anyone on this type of machine and hope someone can provide the file I require.
Thanks , Jules
