Hey Guys!
I am having an problem. I reformatted my CPU's hard drive, and when I started it up again, it said This file is missing or corrupted... I got out of that by taking a Windows 95 boot disk and getting into a command prompt. DOS Is not recognizing my Hard DRive though, only the floppy. Please tell me how to solve this :)

Check the CMOS setup and see if it's recognized there.
Does the HDD boot on its own? Do you get any error messages - what *exactly* is the error message, and what do you do to get it?What are you trying to do, reinstall '98?

If you reformatted your hdd, you have wiped everything of it, and it now has to be recreated.
If your pc is set to boot from it, it will fail. Check in your bios to see that it boots in the order A: C:
Good luck - keep us posted.

Hi Guys!
thanks for the prompt reply. The exact error message was This following file is missing or corrupted, command.com. So I got a Windows 95 Startup disk, and now it gives me a command prompt. Everytime I type in D: (MY CD-ROM drive, it says Invalid DRive Specification). I am trying to put XP on my system, or any type of OS possible... Thanks for the reply

Easiest would be to boot from the XP CD and install from there, I would imagine. Might have to check your CMOS settings to set the CD as first boot device.
Otherwise you'd need to setup the DOS driver for your CD on the boot floppy.

Please look in your bios and check if it has the facilty to boot from a cd. I suspect it does not, because it is not recognising the presence of the cd drive.
If not you have to set up the cd as being present in config.syus and autoexec.bat before proceeding.
You advise that you can boot from a W95 DISK (repeat DISK), but does this give you any reference about a cd driver.
Check out dos help for the SYS command.
Good luck - keep us posted.

Hey Guys
I followed teh Bios instructions and it worked..
just have a question. I have an old Celeron 366Mhz, 32MB RAM and 4GB HD...I was wondering if it is possible to put Windows XP on that.Thank you for the prompt reply.

Don't think that you have enough RAM - but what do I know, just started using '98 recently *g*
Check here for XP Home requirements.
Glad you got it working.

System has been hanging up recently. I tried to load W2000 over NT. When it got to the part to load software on a partition, no partitions were found at all. Not even my slave drive was recognized. Found IBM utilities and reset boot sector as well as wiped the disk clean. Machine still wont recognize HD and sometimes just opens up the CMOS screen at boot up. Is my IDE controller bad? Tried 2 disks and neither are recognized even in the startup screen.

I'm having a similar problem. My hard drive is recognized off and on. Every two days or so it gives me a disk boot failure. I am running the Gigabyte 7VAXP board with 256MB DDR333 RAM, Maxtor DiamonMax 30GB drive, Windows XP.
The only thing I can think of is either something is wrong with the harddrive itself or the board and OS don't like it. I have also tried different IDE cables.
Oh and you can run 2000 with 32MB but recommended is 64MB of RAM. XP should be close to the same.
