Subject: Multisession CDRW won't show in DOS
OS: DOS /w98, XP
CPU/Ram: Celeron 1.7GHZ, 256MB RAM
Comment:

I created a cd with some directories in dos using the 16 bit tools provided free by doscdroast beta3 and dao39h16. I was able to see this first session in dos and also in xp. Then I returned to dos /w98 and added another session with file2cd.exe. But this time the second session wont show up both in dos or in xp. But when I use the "cdtools /toc" command both sessions are listed. So, my requiest is how do I get to see the last/second session that I created with "file2cd.exe" in 16 bit dos?

PS. Is this a software problem with "file2cd.exe"?

Did you remember to close the last session?

Hello again.
I think this is a problem with dos /w98. The reason I belive this is because, I burned another disk with Nero from XP it also had 2 sessions and when I did a "dir" command on it, only the files from the first session was shown.
SO, now I wish help from people weho are using dos varients like freedos, opendos, ptsdos, ptsdos 2000, dr-dos and of-course ms-dso 6.22 to verify that > can you see files from the second or the last session in your cd-rom from dos (other than dos /w98)?

I tried file2cd without the "/session" option. Aftar that when I tried to add another session to the CDRW, the TOC could not be read.
Besides, even a single session disk could not be read (created by file2cd) by the Nero cd writer in XP, even though it is accessible to XP. (Perhaps it is a bug in file2cd.exe or with Nero).

I think your concerns are irrelevant, CDRoast from the outset was created as a standalone MSDOS 16bit 6.xx or equivelent CD burning software.

It is not meant to be run in Windows 32bit, as Windows already has Burning Software available which does a ggod job already and reinventing the wheel was not the goal.

http://www.freeweb.hu/doscdroast/index.html

it does state on opening line........

"Software package for burning cd-rom and dvd-rom disc under 16-bit DOS systems
(MS-DOS,PC-DOS,DR-DOS,FreeDOS or compatibles)

Ok, if you know how to show files added in the second session or multiple session's under 16 bit dos please tell me.

PS. I have used the file2cd.exe supplied by doscdroast beta 3 to write those second or multiple session cdroms under 16 bit dos. But they (the files and folders of the later session wont show up when I use the dir command on it).

Well for a start you are using MSDOS 7.1x aka Windows 95b/95c/98/98SE DOS subsystem.

The GoldenHawk software which CDRoast is based on was originally written for MSDOS6 or compatible (16 bit version), they do have a later (32bit console version) so I would presume there is a differnce which may or may not be why you experiencing incompatibilities.

I am just trying to point you in the right direction and maybe look thru GoldenHaks site:

http://www.goldenhawk.com/freeware.htm

I have not recently used CDroast myself, but when last used was on a "pure" MSDOS 6 standalone system.
