XP questions belong in the XP forum

"Bad command or filename" means that the external command is not available - either not on the PATH or in the current directory (as spelled)

This is *impossible* for internal commands such as 'ver' which are always accessible since they are contained within command.com (IF you are running MS-DOS)

Since you're running the XP command console, it is foolish indeed to seek answers in the DOS forum

Try a bootdisk if you must, but the XP CD should have all of the tools required - try booting with that

Resist the temptation to close your request for help with semantically-null questions like “Can anyone help me?”

Good Lord, YES!!!

If you are trying to fix or reinstall Linux, XP, ore even Windoz98 USE THE MEDIA and materials that came with those respective systems

!!!!NOT MS-DOS 6xx!!!!

If you are trying to format a hdd for XP, USE THE XP CD!!!

"OS: Win XP V5.1"

So, you booted on a "Win XP V5.1" floppy?

As jboy says, it's not possible to be booted on DOS and have internal commands unavailable.

dir
ver
cd
copy

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.
