I have been trying to create a boot cd-r from old MS-DOS 6.22 disks, and have as of yet been 90% unsuccessful. The reason I've have 10% successfulness is that I found out how to have MS-DOS setup to read all DOS installation files from a single disk: USE A HEX EDITOR ON "DOSSETUP.INI" AND CHANGE THE LABELS TO READ THE SAME.
After the DOS SETUP.exe program checks the labels on the disk(s), it checks the volume capacities. This presents a problem if you run the setup from a CD.
I've been trying to use a DOS-bootable floppy with ATAPI CD-ROM drivers on it, plus the setup and files from the first disk, then APPEND (append.exe) -ing the CD's root directory to the currecnt directory ("append /x:on d:\"), which has the contents of disks 2 & 3 in it. The floppy also contains the modified DOSSETUP.INI file in it, with the label of the floppy repeated for the labels of all three disks.
It works fine until it comes time to install the programs on the 2nd & 3rd disks, during which the setup program gives a whole bunch of error messages, and I am not sure if it installs it correctly.
Note that, until I burn it on CD (with floppy emulation), I'm using a multisession CD in congruence with a bootable floppy, described earlier.
