Comment: I can't believe this. I was trying to install MS-DOS 6.22 from floppy disk and everything seemed to be going fine. After the first reboot it took me back into to the installation page and when I proceeded I noticed a format command being executed on my system. When I quickly exited and done a dir, all contents on my c: partition were gone!!! I couldn't believe what it had done. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a full format because it only took 5 seconds to wipe out everything but exactly what it done I don't know. Does anyone know where I could get more information on this and how to undo it? All partitions on my HD are running FAT32.

Reply: (edit)You'll have to get a data recovery program. Same thing happened to me the first time I installed Dos 6.22. I use PowerQuest Lost and Found. It got almost everything that was gone. The Dos format just deleted the FAT. HTH

Reply: (edit)Yeah, well, live & learn I guess. The install did exactly what it was supposed to - you were installing one OS over another. good luck with it all.

Reply: (edit)DOS 6.22 will not SEE a FAT-32 partition, it only recognizes FAT-16 partitions; so the installation program assumed you were installing the OS on a fresh out-of-the-box hard disk. It made some assumptions and went with those assumptions. If you want to run DOS 6.22, you'll need to re-fdsik your hard drive and make all partitions FAT16. Remember, you will have a 2 GB limit on a FAT16 partition size. -Doug
