There isn't a boot disk for Windows 3.x
It requires that DOS first be booted on the computer. It will only accept DOS 6.22 or lower versions.

Go to:

www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk/

open the ms-dos resource page, and follow the links to the DOS downloads. I'd advise you to use DOS 6.22

Download the software and then create floppy disks and label them properly (DOS Disk 1, Disk 2, Disk 3). Then reboot your computer using Disk 1 to install DOS on your computer's hard drive.

If Windows still won't boot up, you'll probably be missing your
c:\config.sys
c:\autoexec.bat

files. They have to be there for Windows to work correctly.

How are you booting up the machine? If the setup worked fine, you should be booting from the hard drive now - not the floppy disks. If that works fine (I'm assuming that you're booting from a floppy here,) then you should be able to access the hard drive. In other words, make sure you're booting from the hard drive - not a floppy. Is there anything worthwhile on that system? It might be easier to reinstall everything. Mick C's sites with the installation disks:

Windows 3.1:

Hi Preston, As a matter of interest, my MS-DOS Disk Images are in Disk eXPress Self-Extracting Disk Images. which maintain the correct Disk Labels (Disk      1,2 or 3) and are Bootable if they are intended to be (Normaly Disk 1) Thanks anyway!

DoOMsdAY, It is not a good idea to point people to my satalite download pages, but to point them via my:
http://www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk site.
The pages you point to, may not be available all the time! And that goes for Kewlone.Com as well, as it seems he has linked all his MS-DOS & Windows 3x downloads via my pages as well!

Okee Mick C. I only did that to save them a link surf, but was unaware of the site not being available all of the time. Thanks. :)

Mick,

I meant label the diskette (as in sticky paper label). I'm sure you superior software is unable to place a paper label upon itself.

If you truly want to start from scratch, you'll need a low level formatter. Open the case and get the make of your hard drive. Then go to the maker's web site (ie. www.maxtor.com for Maxtor). Click on Support (or Technical Support) for that site and get to the Downloads area. Somewhere in there should be a low level formatter. Download it and place it on a bootable floppy. If you need any help with this, e-mail me. I've done this numerous times before so I should be able to find you a link to download from. One note. A low level format will wipe EVERYTHING off of your hard drive. So if you have anything important on there, ask me and I'll try and help you get it off.

Sorry Preston, But most other DOS downloads are unable to carry out this simple task! and I misread your message.

I am working on downloadable sticky paper right now... will let you know!
