OK, I've loaded DOS 6.22 several times on several boxes and this time I genned 6.22 and loaded my CDROM and Mitsumi mouse. CDROM loaded fine, but last line before my C:\ I get "Mitsumi mouse driver not installed". Now, I tried loading from config with the same results. I even downloaded and installed a new Mitsumi driver thinking that maybe my driver file had dropped a bit somewhere since my floppy is so old.No dice.
Any ideas??? I might be overlooking SOMETHING, but I don't know what it would be.
Thanks

Be sure you're using a good mouse and that it is plugged into a good usable port. If the driver can't see the mouse, it won't load.

Hi,

Also if your computer has onboard COM ports enter CMOS setup and make sure you have COM ports enabled there.

Good luck, Igor M

The mouse is working OK in W98 (I set up a triple boot into either DOS, W3.1, or W98)so the port and mouse are physically fine. The mouse won't work in 3.1 either which is understandable. Now, the way I'm booting into DOS is by hitting the power button, box boots to 98 but before it boots into 98 screen I'm hitting f8 to get my choice of boots. I thought that may be why DOS isn't seeing the port, but in thinking back I remember that the mouse didn't load before I installed 3.1 and 98. Is it possible that DOS can't see the port while 98 can?
BTW it's a serial mouse with the port connected to the mobo via a strip plugged into the mobo, not a PCI or ISA card.
Thanks

May be you need to specify the COM port number for DOS driver. Some drivers recognize the port automaticaly, but some not, especially if you have mouse on COM2. To figure out to what port your mouse actually connected if can have a look on motherboard or in Win98 you can open Start->Control Panel->Modems and on the Diagnostics tab you will find this information.

Good luck, Igor M

It now sounds as if you have a virtual port which is handled by Windows via a port driver program, and is not available unless Win98 is running. The same way that a Winmodem works - it's a program, not a real port.

I concur with the COM Port answer. If the mouse is connected to COM2 instead of COM1 you will need to specify with a switch ex..

mouse /2

A mouse on COM1 is usually autodetected, but many mouse drivers other than MicroSoft need this switch. To get the right syntax type mouse /? this should get you all of the correct switches for your particular driver.
