im trying to update my bios using the a flash program. i formatted an msdos disk to boot my computer up and put the flash program on it as well. when i restart my computer i get the message saying that command.com is missing or corrupted. in additon, it asks me for an interpreter and i cannot get any further than that. why does this happen and what can i do about it?

Did you make the floppy on an XP box?
If so, try again; right click on a: drive, choose format and see if there is an option to make a bootable disk.

sorry for the late reply, classes got in the way. i have already tried creating an msdos boot disk using that method. i know that the command.com file is present on the disk because i tried to copy and paste an existing one on my computer onto the disk and was prompted to overwrite. replacing the command.com file did not make any difference because i still get the same error message at boot up. is there a way for me to obtain an alternative copy of this file?
