I have a DOS program that I use under Windows 98. When I have exited the program I no longer have any memory left to bring up another program.

Somewhat short on details, but have you tried CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up running programs and see if it's still in memory? If so, try and close it from there.

Do you mean you don't have any memory left to bring up another DOS program after loading some DOS programs? If this is the case, just close the DOS window, and then open a new one, so that the memory used by the previous DOS programs will be usually restored.
