Hi
I have McAfee virus scan running on my home PC. It does the detailed scan on start up which includes a list of numbered tests (dunno what they do) anyway, now my PC seems to freeze on test 15 or 16.

Does anyone have an idea of what these tests are, or even better how do I fix the thing? :)

thanks

-chris

I use McAfee Virus Scan and have the following line in my autoexec.bat file:

C:\PROGRA~1\NETWOR~1\MCAFEE~1\SCAN.exe C:\ /boot

Now McAfee Virus Scan only scans the boot sector. If you go to dos (in the C:\Program Files\Network Associates\McAfee VirusScan folder) and type scan /? you will see a list of switches you can use.

Before I gave up on Macafees and put the complete package in the bin I had endless conflict problems with other software. What might be happening is that you have some other virus program also running on start up. Try disabling any other virus programs including BIOS based programs in Set Up. Conflicts also seem to occur if you have any other automatic scanning programs such as Macafees own First Aid or PC Doctor and so on. Try restoring your system to the configuration it had before you installed Macafees and if everything is ok then try reinstalling Macafees. Unfortunately Macafees is not easy to uninstall because the software makes an enormous number of changes to your system some of which can be hard to find and still cause problems.

McAfee has information titled "Windows Appears to Hang at Startup" at http://www.mcafeehelp.com/faq.asp?docid=60736&CategoryId=245&chat= , which may apply to your problem.
