I assume you don't want to lose what you have on the disk. Your only option is probably to try and set up the disk as a second drive in a machine, and then use a sector editor like Norton DiskEdit to find and copy files off the disk.

If your BIOS can no longer understand the drive, then your only option is to send the disk to a data-recovery company. They will charge you tons of money, so this is only worth it if your data is very valuable.

I just encountered this problem first hand yesterday and tried using the above mentioned ideas but none work.. I used pq magic, norton disk, partition mgk, and a few other utilities and everytime got the same error message badmbr* and have not found a way of fixing or such. all this was due to testing boot magic and partition magic products.

thanks

saul

Okay here is the solution I thinkI posted this message an hour ago and after pulling all the compoonents off the mother board and disconnecting the hardrives and then putting it back together with the corrupted hd as a secondary i used partition magic and fdisk and guess what the boot.ini file was read by the ntkrnl.. not sure what the problem was but its working like a charm now.. didn't eve have to format (only the d: (scsi)) ..

hope the same works wiht you..
