A while back I decided to bring my 486 back to life by putting Linux on it well i decided i was going to put dos back on.
Well to do that I deleted all of the partitions :-) and created a dos partition, but Linux installed a Boot loader into the MBR. For some strange reason the boot loader(Lilo) pops up and just says "LI" unstead of the normal "LILO:" and will not continue booting. How do I repair my MBR?

Well thats your problem isnt it cant get past the boot straps and stuck in no OS huh.

Get yourself a DOS boot disk see if that works first then start fundling with fdisk /mbr or something (err, read all about it first, I really have no idea what it can do)

hey all, I was looking for some answers to my problem when i found this discussion forum and another Jason who had the same problem as me... My machine also loads up and just says "LI". After that both LINUX and Windows cannot load up from that hard disk and the rest of my partitions are not detected either... any low level program that i can use to try and retrieve my data?

thanx

A Windows 98 install will remove the Li strandard fragments.

I loaded FreeBSD on my hard drive which loaded fine. I then had to reload recently but chose to let FreeBSD write to the master boot record. Now, I can't load ANY operating system because it tells me that there is a problem with the MBR. Tried it on another disk and that MBR is now bad. FDISK /MBR isn't working. Any ideas?
