Hello,

on March 17, 2004 at 07:03:08 Pacific
Wengier posted a ping.exe file: Located at: http://newdos.yginfo.net/upload/ping.exe

Is there a manual for this file? It works great but I wanna try to write a config file for it. But I have no idea what the format is supposed to be. I need to hard code a IP addy into it.

The thread is located at http://www.computing.net/dos/wwwboard/forum/14680.html

Thanks
-James

'Ping.exe' is included with Win9x - as for a 'manual', you can try:

ping /?

.. or else Google it

jboy,

This is not the same ping.

With ping /? this one says:

C:\temp\_>ping /?
NO PACKET DRIVER FOUND

Ah, well - what's in a name, I suppose.

Still, I hardly expect there to be a manual for a 27Kb file.

Wengier hasn't been active here for some months now.

jboy,

Indeed, what's in a name.

Last week somebody was trying to use f-disk.

Can't imagine why it didn't work.

And why does DOS often say "bad command or filename" when it could just as easily say something like, "That's very creative syntax"

;(

Yes, my mistake - the one from 9x is quite different.

Examining the file yielded a minimal set of command line options:

PING [-s|/s] [-d|/d] hostname [number] -d /d Debug mode activated -s /s

Make of that what you will

Oh yeah, 'Buddy/Linda' and the "F-disk" (heh)

For a fact DOS error messages seem to confound most folks - but compared to the ones from early DOS, they're positively intuitive.

Almost anything done wrong got you 'incorrect syntax'... and that was that.

try using the WATTCP tools though old they
have useful utilities apart from PING.exe
and ping.exe /? will list the parameters.

Wow, thanks for all the post guys.

The WATTCP.cfg does seem to work, but since it doesn't out put the current setting, I'll have to packet sniff to figure out if it actually took the settings. It doesn't complain about the lack of a config file though.

Any Idea where this came from? I'd love to see some source files if there were any to be seen.

Any whos, Thanks a Bunch
