If formatting the drive does not work, you can maybe solve the problem with a low level format. Don't use just any program, try searching at www.quantum.com to start with.
You'll probably know the parameters, heads, cylinders and such.

you haven't given enough information as to what type of hard drive this is. If it is the prehistoric non IDE type then you can use a low level format program such a s Norton's
"calibrate" etc. If it is an IDE drive then it can not be low level formatted because such is already done at the factory.

Hi! I have a Seagate SCSI HD, and I tried to format it with the Tekram controller utilities, but now my PC doesn't recognize the HD. A new low level formatting doesn't solve my problem... what can I do?

I have:
Seagate ST3491A, ST3120A, ST3243A
Western Digital AC24300
Fujitsu (screws won't come out, so I can't check it..., all I can remember is that it's 1.2 GB)

Does anyone know of a low level formating program that would work for any one of those?
Is is possible to do a low level format without a program for it? (just curious)

I have a seagate drive with following spec..

3303 cylinders 1705 mb 16 heads 63 sectors.

In computer cmos setup, when i tried to
autodetect this harddrive, it was detected
and correct spec(cyl, heads, sectors, capacity) was found.

When i tried to fdisk the drive ( I am using
Win 98) the computer hangs while it was
verifyig( when i tried to partition as
primary)

Is low level format will solve the problem?

If it solves, how can i get the software.

I expect you feedback...

with regards

vijey

There is usually a low level format utility in the BIOS. Look under hard disk utility or something similar.

Ofcourse I'm going to run FDISK to delete the drives and then run FORMAT, and then install the OS. Thanks.
