Reply: (edit)You make a bootdisk, you copy all the files from your C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND and put them on the bootdisk you just made, obviously they won't all fit, so you take a second floppy.

Reply: (edit)Don't tell me I'm full of crap. The DOS 7 you have is DOS 7.0 beta, which is pre-Windows 95. It was the DOS that MS was designing to build their next version of Windows on top. What I just told him to do works perfectly well.

Reply: (edit)There are several different versions of DOS 7. Microsofts version of DOS 7 was bundled with Win95 and was not sold as "stand alone". Even MS-7 came in two versions. Win95A had a version of DOS 7 which could only use FAT16 drives. Later versions of Win95 could use either FAT16 or FAT32 partitions. So whatever DOS 7 you're looking for, it shouldn't be Microsofts. It was never sold except as part of Win95.

Reply: (edit)Who knows, Microsoft may have released a version of DOS 7 that they sold over seas. Which wouldn't have been a bad idea considering how some countries are slow to warm up to new computer technologies (I.E., in this case, Windoze 95). But yes as far as the US is concerned, MS-DOS 7 is just the underlying DOS on which windows 9X is installed onto. Sure you may have gotten a copy of MS-DOS 7 from a friend, but it's probably a beta. Someone on the internet should release a distribution of DOS 7 with all the goodies and an install program. It would be tres cool until uncle Bill found out about it. -Michael

Reply: (edit)There isn't a standalone version of MS-DOS 7 nowhere in the world. Besides that Win 3.x doesn't work under MS-DOS 7. M$ changed some undocumented features in the kernel needed by Win 3.x to run. With no doubt you have a beta. You can download it in several places on the net.

Reply: (edit)Windows 3.1 has no problems with MS-DOS 7.0 (aka Windows 95) It is only with MS-DOS 7.10 (aka Windows 98 - Not sure about 95B) that MS altered IO.SYS to block it out (why? possibly becouse of FAT32) There is a patch available (I have it on my site) that bypasses this.

Reply: (edit)IBM PC-DOS was released in 1998! and is only a Y2K update to PC-DOS 7.0 anyway. It has no major advantages over MS-DOS 6.22 other than it has more add-on utilities such as PCMCIA support. It is stall a FAT16 DOS with no Long Filename support. What is it with 'Can only be purchase' Even MS-DOS is not free! I have seen PC-DOS 2000 available for download in the same way as MS-DOS 6.22 anyway (Look for it yourself!)
