Comment:

a compaq laptop is only booting up in safe
mode as it is detecting a problem at start up
and asks you to restart.Scan disk does not
detect anything wrong.Norton does but does
not fix it.I cannot reload windows as it says
dos is running something.Should i reload Dos
? If so - how ? And where do i get it

Hi,

Sounds like you run some DOS driver or program in Autoexec.bat or Config.sys. Try to boot in safe mode and look for any suspicious commands in those files. Or just move Autoexec.bat and Config.sys in some other directory (remove them from root directory of C: drive) and reboot without them - in fact Windows don't need those files at all. May be without Autoexec.bat and Config.sys Windows starts working. In that case you need to figure out what commands in those files cause the crash and remove them. If after moving the files problem persists I think you at least will be able to reinstall Windows from a safe mode.

Good luck, Igor M.
