Hey guys. Is there a way to display my Internet IP in DOS?

I'm behind a router so IPCONFIG gives me the 192.168.XXX.XXX IP.

That is your IP. Are you looking for more information? Try ipconfig /all

192.168.XXX.XXX is the IP my router assigns. My real IP is currently 4.43.255.42. How can I have it displayed in DOS?

There's no DOS under WinXP, only some sort of emulation generated by the command interpreter CMD.exe. When you're on the command prompt, the so called "DOS box", you actually entirely under Windows XP.

So, perhaps the folks from the Windows XP forum can have better answers for you.

the only way to know your external IP when you're behind a router is to connect to an external server and ask it your IP number for after connecting to a server, the server will b the only one knowing your IP adress. (external that is)

most network/internet programs like Instant Messengers use this technique : they connect to a specific webserver and ask it to send them your IP adress. there are several webservers that allow this. But to make it work under DOS you'd have to write a program to actualy send the querry to the webserver and await the response.. Of course, some routers allow their clients to telnet to them (telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ppp) (where xxx = ip adress of your router, normally something like 192.168.1.254 or 192.168.1.1 ... and ppp = port the router listens on for remote admin. My DI-701 listens on port 333 but for yours you'll have to check your manual or the website of your vendor...)

after logging in with telnet it's best to type the command help or ? to view a list of possible commands. with my router I need to type 'show' to get my 'ipconfig' of my router, showing me it's ip adress which is the same as my external ip adress...

Good luck ;)
