Invalid system disk message after formatting c:.... help!

Comment:
After I formatted my c:, when I restarted my comp, it goes through the RAM check and that screen that shows your primary IDE and stuff, and then it says something lik "Invalid system disk. Replace disk and press any key". I'm trying to reinstall Win98. If I unplug my hard drive, I can run the Win98 boot disk off my A:, and that will give me access to my cd-rom, but that doesn't help because even if I plug my hard drive back in, it still can't sense it. Any help?

You need to put system files on your C drive. When you format from Win 98 it offers the chance to do that. You might try that or reformat in DOS with /s to have the system files added to C

Go into System Setup (CMOS) and change the boot order from C,A to A,C. It's a good Idea to return the setting to C,A after you install Windows as it is about the best protection there is from being infected by a boot sector virus that might be on a floppy carelessly left in the floppy drive. BTW, the setting is found in the BIOS features section if it is an Award BIOS.

Go into your BIOS and change CA into AC.Then save and exit. Place your Windows startup disk in the floppy. It then boots into command prompt. At the command line type C:/SYS C: It should say "files Transferred" Restart and place the windows 98 CD in the CD ROM drive and installation will start. Please E-mail me if you have any further problems.
