Comment: Please, does anyone here have format.com to dos 6.22. I need it badly, because it can't format my harddisk without it. I only get the error message "invalid dos version" I would appreciate it if someone could mail it. Sincerly Stian.

Reply: (edit)Stian, just what exactly are you trying to do here? A little info would be helpful - the error message that you quote would seem to indicate that you're running DOS3 (or earlier) Using the 622 version of format (or trying to) is probably not going to accomplish much - you need to be running the correct DOS version for a format to function. Why do you want to format anyways? What are you trying to install? Details, details, details.

Reply: (edit)... y'know, I think that the most difficult posts are the ones where the petitioner "knows" exactly what they want (like the guy who wanted a clean version of Sirc32) A little insight into the details may save them from a lot of headaches - and from reposting with a whole NEW set of problems.

Reply: (edit)Here are the details : I have an old machine which was beeing run with Windows95. Then one day Windows95 crashed, and i formatted C.I tried to install windows over again, but windows told me that another OS already was installed on my computer. :. What i did not know was that there were 3 different partitions of the harddisk, and that DOS 6.22 is installed on the partition D:. F-disk won't start, and Format.com gives me the message "Invalid Dos version" when trying to run it. Maybe the best solution is to connect the harddisk to another computer, run it as a slave and format it from there? Hope that would be enough details.

Reply: (edit)Well, believe me, it does help. It lets me know which (if any) other factors might be affecting or causing the difficulty, it allows me (or others) to better advise you on a perhaps simpler or more effective way to approach the situation, and it gives me an idea (at least) of your own computer experience. That being said, there's no guarantee that I or other contributors can necessarily solve your problem.... but it sure increases the likelihood of doing so. Question - if DOS622 is on D: don't you already have that version of format.com? Are the partitons all still there, and if so, do you want to keep them? It's starting to sound as if there was (or is) some sort of OS or partition manager installed - that error message usually comes up when the OS is an early, incompatible version of DOS (prior to 3.2) You may be better off removing the partitions entirely and starting over - your setup sounds like it could be overly complex (at least so far) By all means, try the 622 disk available from the powerload site, but I suspect that there will still be problems - on a valid, formatted DOS partition, Win95 should just install - shouldn't need DOS unless you're using an 'upgrade' Windows installation disk. Or your idea of slaving it to another system should be ok, too. The thing is, you've already formatted it once already... something else seems to be going on.

Reply: (edit)... you're sure that the message is "invalid DOS version" and not "incorrect DOS version"? - they mean completely different things
