Your this is a error from the CDRom...or the CD that you are using....or you can type "Edit X:/Setup.txt"...and read the help from there....X=Your CDRom Driver

What version of Windows do you wish to install? Just go into the BIOS and set your first boot device to the CD. The setup will run from there.

it doesn't do it i've already tried that. When i tell it to boot from the cd rom it just acts like there is nothing in the cdrom. I am trying to put ME on there since all i have is xp and 2k upgrades and you can't do that wihtout an OS already on the system. As for editing the file and reading the help it won't do it. It brings up the blue text editor thing but gives message bout can't read or something.

Even though you only have W2k and WXP upgrade CD's, you can still do a clean installation with them. All you have to do is set you CDROM as you first bootable device, and boot off of the CD. The CD will load all drivers, and present you with a screen telling you to press enter to install Windows, R to Repair an existing installation, or F3 to exit and restart the machine. Press enter to begin the installation process.

Next, press F8 to agree to the EULA. Now windows will check to see if there is a previous version of windows on your HDD to upgrade. Since it will find none, you will be prompted to insert your Windows 98, 95, or ME disc. Insert the disk, and press enter.

The media will be scanned to make sure you are entitled to an upgrade, and now you will be returned to the partition manager screen. Now re-insert you XP or 2000 CDROM, and continue as normal. Also, if you are wishing to install the XP upgrade, you can use the 2000 upgrade CD as the qualifiying media.

also since boot floppy is only thing i can do to even get a prompt if its not in there it says

"Searching for Boot Record from Floppy..Not Found
Searching for Boot Record from IDE-0..OK

Invalid system disk
Replace the disk, and then press any key"

I don't know why its even saying that if i don't have it in there. Doesn't it say that when a floppy that isn't startup disk is inserted?

The reason that this is happening is because there has been no bootable MBR placed on your hard disks. Some computers will show "Invalid System Disk" while others are more direct stating "Missing Operating System".

To install Windows XP from the DOS prompt, insert your Windows 98 bootdisk (available at my site) and select to start the computer with CDROM support. Once you are at the DOS prompt, insert your Windows XP CD in the CD drive, and type "CD i386" to go to the i386 sub directory. once you are in this directory, type in "WINNT" to start the installation process. Installation will continue as normal. HTH

Well i decidd to swith to win2k but i did the same thing u said to do with XP, i used win98se boot disk and opened winnt.exe in the i386 folder. The first time i ran winnt.exe it froze at "Inspecting Computer...." was doing for like 3 hours. I restarted and when did it again it appeared to work normal, it was loading the 2000 boot files i'm guessing from the cd itself. Anyways not all the sudden out of no where during the install the computer powered off and it won't turn back on?!? What happened! It doesn't work in any other plugs in the house either.

For some reason, my old power supply gave me the same problem. I just put my voltmeter probes on each of the terminal plugins and had it set on the DC setting. I drained the capacitors manually through the voltmeter. After doing this, I was able to restart the computer. You may want to try this.

Where can I get a voltmeter probe? So what is the technical reason for it not working and draining the capacitors making it work?

You can get a voltmeter at Wal-mart, Radio shack, or any retail store specilizing in electronics. I reccomend getting a multimeter, as it has more function than voltage measuerment such as Ohm testing, Amperage testing, AC measurement, DC measurement, and if you buy an expensive one, frequency of acive line.

The reason that having charged capacitors in your PS will block current is that when a capacitor is fully charged, it will automatically cut off the electrical current to avoid over charging. (similar to a gas pump switching off when tank is full.) When you drain the capacitor, you are removing the electicity from the capacitor (as in gas from the tank), and letting the current flow freely once again.
