I don't know what you used to format it with, but DOS CDs are a rare breed.

If you have a DOS boot disk from one of the many sites, you can just:

sys c:

and the HD will boot. The same boot floppy will have SOME useful DOS externals.

Normally dos (version 6.2x) comes on 3 floppies.

Probably one of your friends has a set.

Normally if you boot from floppy 1, it will enter the dos install procedure. If not, there is probabably a batch file called setup, install or similar.

Possibly you may have to format your hdd in fat16 or fat32, if not already done so. Although some dos install procedures do this for you.

Good luck - Keep us posted.

Maybe try the evaluation version of PTSDOS, includes an early version of Arachne Web Browser which you will need ideally an external serial modem and a helpful ISP:

If you are using DOS utilities to create disks in NT Command Prompt this can lead to anomilies, best to us MSDOS prompt in W9x/ME

If you need to create a boot disk from an image with *.img extension(like the Freedos one) from a dos prompt use DiskImager v1.1 1999 by Port Jackson Computing. The program is for 1.44 Mo diskettes only. For instructions on how to use di.exe type:
di.exe /?
ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win95/diskutl/dskimg11.zip
Example of restore from an image:
di /r a: c:\fdos1440.img
Change the /r for /s to create an image from a diskette.
Good luck.
