Disk One needs to be a bootable diskette. Go to my PowerLoad Bootdisk Project (Link Above) and download the MS-DOS 6.22 Bootdisk Image - Read instructions on that page on how to extract. then copy rest of Disk 1 onto it.

One other thing you need to do is write the correct Disk Label onto all 3 Disks.

Which is DISK      1 (Thats DISK followed by 6 spaces, then 1)For Disks 2 & 3 change the last number. If you do not do this SETUP will keep asking you for DISK 1 forever!

Download the MS-DOS 6.22 boot disk image or selfexecutable(*.exe).Make the boot disk. With the image you need to use the Winimage 6.1 program to do it under Windows.Use the format/write key in the top taskbar.Move your mouse pointer over the small boxes to highlight what it is.With a selfexecutable click the file and insert a diskette in A drive.Boot the computer with it.At dos prompt type :
sys B: (you press enter after a dos command)
Follow on screen instructions to swap diskettes until the system files are transferred. If you still don't boot with the disk 1, use label.exe to change the label like explained by Mike C.
label a:
All eleven spaces for a label must be used in order to find the disk 1.Good luck.

If you are trying to re-create a MS-DOS 6.22 DISK 1 then download the MS-DOS 6.22 Bootdisk! which is a .IMG file contained inside a ZIP file to further reduce its size for download - Full instructions are on the Bootdisk Project Page...

Once you have extracted the image onto a 1.44MB Diskette and copied the rest of Disk 1 files onto it (Do not forget the Disk Label)

Switch your PC on with Disk 1 in the A:\ Drive. and SETUP will transfer the system files for you as part of the install process.
