Ok I have installed DOS 6.22 and there is not much space left on my C: drive. Its only an old 286 PC and I want to fit windows on it aswell. It will fit but i need to free up some room. Out of all the files from 6.22, which files do i need and what files can i delete? Here is a list of all 6.22 DOS files, pleasse tell me which ones i don't need and can delete. I mostly use my computer for games so i shouldn't really need that much. I do compress my disks so i defitenely need drvspace of course. Well please e-mail me and tell me which can be deleted which won't be suitable for my computer and a description why just in case. Thanx!!!

Stop and think here!

Do NOT delete ANY MS-DOS File! Yet..
The only files you need are the ones that are listed in your Autoexec.Bat & Config.Sys files.

The rest (and Worms list is about right) you should copy them onto 2 or 3 Floppy Disks for possible future use. If you delete them, and then deside that you need say Print.exe you would then need to locate and expand that file for use. A little work now may save some later!

DRVSPACE.EXE
DRVSPACE.HLP
DRVSPACE.INF
DRVSPACE.SYS
DRVSPACE.BIN
Are needed to run DriveSpace

You may have problems installing Windows 3.1 onto a 286 anyway. How much memory do you have? 3.1 needs a minimum of 4MBs of RAM for enhansed mode or 2MBs for Standard Mode.

Hey there, Windows 3.1 works well on my 286 with 1 meg RAM.
Of course, Windows 3.0 kicks ass on my 286 with 1 meg RAM.

It says i have bout 16mb all up and thats on a compressed drive. Um i think its only estimated ratio because say if ii put on 1mb program, it drops by about 2-3 MB so my guess is bout 10MB. Windows 3.1 will work i had it on before but i just need to free up memory. I deleted most windows stuff that i don't need now i'm looking through the dos stuff.

Ok i am using POWER.EXE, DEBUG.exe so i won't delete those. Um don't you need QBASIC.exe to edit batch files because if u do, i defitenely need that!
Don't u need KEYBRD2.SYS??? i see no 1 but don't u need 2 also??

Also what do EGA.CPI do, don't u need those also?? Just checking before i delete. Oh i made a backup of my dos disks before but now they didn't open up for some reason so i had to download it again so i am making sure what files to delete in case i stuff it up, thanx!
