I have a AMSTRAD PC2086 and I want to install ms-dos 5 or 6 on it but my disk reader is a 720Ko and the disk which contains the setup and all the file are on 1,44Mo.
How can I do?
Thanks!

You've got to find a computer with a 1.44 Mb
Diskdrive. On this on you can copy the files to a 720Kb.

720 kb disk (sometimes) will not read in 1.44mb drives. I have 3 machines, One with a 720 kb disk drive, two with 1.44 disk drive. On one computer, when I put a 720k disk in the drive, it refused to read it, giving errors, would not even allow me to format. On the other hand I put it in the other machine & it read perfectly. It just depends on the drive. By the way, the 1.44 mb dos diskettes will not fit on the 720k disk, I have tried, one after one, they dont have enough space. What operating system are you running now? When I got my computer (the one with the 720k disk drive, there was no OS on it. What I did was made a boot disk. Do you have access to a machine running dos?
Format it to a 720k disk. I cant remember the exact parameters to do this, but in dos 6.2 type help format at the dos promt & it will tell you. When you finish formatting you will be able to use the disk. Copy the sys.com file from the dos directory to your boot disk. Now boot your computer with this disk & type Sys c: This will transfer the boot files from A: to your C: drive. May sound confusing but it worked for me. You have a different situation though if you already have a operating system installed on your machine. Mine was empty, but all you would have to do is format the hard drive to start new.

Yeh & when you finish the above instructions you can just copy the files from the dos directory from one computer to the the Amstrad computer. It might be a pain but it will work.

My OS is ms-dos 3.3 but i want to install another but i can't!
And i can have acces to a machine who runing with ms-dos.
And my computer can't read 720Ko disk.

With dos 3.3 format your hard disk. DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE MADE A BOOT DISK FROM THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS OR YOUR MACHINE WILL NOT BOOT. Type format C: This will delete everything on your machine so you can start new. If you have access to another machine with the version of dos you want them follow the above instructions. It will work if done properly.

I don't see how i can put the ms-dos who is on my Pentium III on my amstrad!I repaet that my disk reader is a 720Ko and he can't read disks 1.44Ko wich i formatted with winimage on my Pentium III.

WinImage will format to 720kb
First put a piece of tape over the second detect hole (The one without the shutter)
It will now format to 720kb LD
