Well, you picked quite the subject to ask a question about. The answer to you question could make an entire web site of it's own-- five, in fact:
Bart's way to create bootable CD-Roms
Have fun.

You want to install DOS 6.22 from a CD-Rom? MS-DOS 6.22 came on three floppy disks plus a supplemental disk. It was not large enough to justify a CD-ROM, but you could copy all three floppies to a directory and put the directory on a CD-ROM. It would then install. I install Windows 3.11 that way.

Then it asks you for to insert DISK 1 all the time as it looks for the disk label! Followed by DISK 2 & 3 Does burning onto a CD/R get round this problem?
MS-DOS 6.22 did not come with a supplimental disk by the way. you had to send for it or download it.

ANON,
Some distributions of MS DOS 6.22 did in fact come with the supplemental disk out of the box. Mine did anyway.

If I recall correctly, the CD-R just has to be labeled Disk 1 and the contents of all the disks are place in the root of the CD. I may be off on that as the method I use is a DOS boot block on the CD-R and an Autorun.inf that points to a preconfigured install of DOS Navigator. You can configure DN-DOS to remove the read-only attributes from files copied from a CD to hard drive. I have Sys.com in the root of the CD-R, so I type SYS C: in the DOS Prompt at the bottom the DN-DOS window and then open one of the directories that contain a pre-configured install of DOS 6.22 and copy the contents of the directory to C:, reboot and done. I have 6 different DOS installs on the CD-R, complete with installed programs. Pretty darned easy.
