If you want a NT batch script instead of a DOS batch, please try Programming Forum or Windows XP Forum, as the rule (warning messages) of this forum states. They are different batch languages, and WinXP has no "DOS". Look at here for more information:

Summary: Perhaps the input field is full of spaces that are being counted as characters? Try hitting Delete and Back Space several times before entering the number... just a thought!...
