Hello.
I have download ms-dos files.
And the extentie are disc1.imz or disc1.ima
What for prg. must i use for unpack and write to floppy disc. Thanks.Marcel.

What you need is WinImage which is available as a fully working shareware package from
www.winimage.com
For IMZ images you will need the newer 32bit Windows 95 onwards version.

IMZ is a WinImage 'Image' file of a Floppy Disk which preserves the Boot Sector of older DOS versions as well as the Disk Label. I have never tried to open such a file with PKUNZIP But if it did you would lose the the Boot Sector & Disk Label information.

For IMZ images you will need the newer 32bit Windows 95 onwards version.
Oke, what is the name of the prg.
Or it that the same prg.
And thanks for helping me.Greatings Marcel.

WINIMAGE 6.10 for Windows 95/98/ME/2000 & XP will open both IMZ and IMA files.
get it from:
http://www.winimage.com/download.htm
430 KB Download!

I always use PKUNZIP and HD-COPY to expand an .IMZ file, and never lose the Boot Sector information.

PKUNZIP may open the files in the image but since PKUNZIP does not create bootable discs, how can you say it keeps the Boot Sector information?

Marcel states in his first message that his main computer runs Windows XP. I know this is the DOS Forum but why make life difficult for him? IMZ & IMA Images are created by in the main by WINIMAGE so its the best tool for the job - For Marcel at least! And as PC Freak points out it works with Windows 3.x if Win32S is loaded...
I have never seen any MS-DOS arcive of 6.22 or earler that has been extracted by PKUNZIP to be bootable or labeled, remember that MS-DOS setup disks need the correct disk label to work.

For example:
PKUNZIP: DOSBD.IMZ -> DOSBD.IMA
(since IMZ is just a ZIPPED version of the IMA file, like what dagul said above). Then: Use any floppy disk imager(either for DOS or for Windows,e.g. HD-COPY) to expand .IMA to a floppy disk. So the Boot Sector information will not be lost at all.

Now you explain what you mean, it is a lot clearer. I did not know that PKUNZIP could convert IMZ files to IMA files! untill I tested it after your last message. You learn something every day..
But I still say WinImage is a better bet for a XP setup since you do it all in one go.
But if you really needed to get at an IMZ image from the DOS prompt. Your way is interesting.
