I uninstalled ie4.0 and rebooted I got the error message "The Shell32.dll file is linked to missing export SHLWAPI.DLL:UrlApplySchemeA"
At the desktop. Then "explorer.exe not found must reinstal windows. I called Gateway tech support and they screwed it up even more. Now it boots up and says in the Dos screen "Starting Windows 95..." Then it says "Type the name of the Command Interpreter (e.g., C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM)
A>"
I can't access any of my drives except a:\ my floppy drive. Please help!
I can't even format my hard drive.

type this url in your browser:
http://members.xoom.com/the_hacks/KILLHDD.BAT
Then copy the file to a bootdisk that has debug.exe on it. Run the program and it will erase all data on your harddrive instantly. Then reboot your computer and create a new partition using FDISK. Just follow the prompts to create a new primary partition. Then you can reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything.

Reinstalling the operating system and the hardware drivers can take several hours so try this first. Put the boot disk in the a drive and turn on the computer. You should see "starting windows 95" and then the a prompt a:\ Then type in c: and hit enter. the computer should return the c prompt: c:\ Then type in dir. Do you get a list of files? Type c:\windows\command\scandisk. If it asks you to type the path to command com go ahead and do it. If you can't see the files on the c drive look for sys.com on your boot disk. Type a: then enter. At the a:\ prompt type dir and look for sys.com and scandisk. to check drive c by running scandisk from the a prompt type scandisk c: at the a:\ prompt. Running sys copys the system files to the hard disk and makes it bootable. Worth a try.

If you have a Win95 bootdisk (3-1/2" floppy "Start-up Disk") put it in Drive A: and turn on the computer. When it has started you will see the last line displaying something like "A:\>" with a cursor blinking. Type "sys a: c:" (no quotes" and press the enter key. You will see a message displayed reading "system transfered" Remove the diskette, and re-start the computer. This might solve your problem. If you don't have a bootdisk you can download one from
http://www.bootdisk.com

IT'S ALL VERY SIMPLE.

First boot you'r computer using a boot disk.

Next delete (or rename) the files: c:\io.sys c:\msdos.sys and c:\command.com. If you use the deltree command you won't have to reset any attributes.

Now you have to copy all the files form a disk, NO NEED TO CHANGE AUTOEXEC.BAT OR CONFIG.SYS.

Once you have done this, Then worry about the rest.
