Can you be a bit clearer on your problem description? If the drive is not ready, and if the boot disk isn't working, how are you "getting a:\ instead of c:\" and or dos mode?

(Could be just me too. I've read in "extra" things for simple problems before.) ;>)

If you're booting to the boot disk, then of COURSE the prompt will read A:/> because that's the drive letter of your Floppy.

Put the Windows 98 CD in your CD Drive, change the boot order in the BIOS to the CD, and you can then install Windows 98 from the CD.

We both may be reading "extra" here Dan. :)

Like Jennifer said you are using a floppy to boot so you will see A:\>

Type the drive letter for your cd-rom and Enter.
A:\>d: [Enter] or e: [Enter]
at the prompt d:\>type setup and [Enter]
or e:\>setup [Enter]

Good Day All!

But to use a boot disk, you must set the boot order as follows: A:\,C:\. If you do not, it will not recognize your boot disk. Also, did you make sure your FAT has not been corrupted? I would recreate the primary DOS partition just to be on the safe side.
