Comment: I have an old IBM ps/2 computer. An 80286 10 mhz with a 30m hard drive. I am thinking of putting a bigger hard drive in. It has the original one in it that came with the computer years ago but it is to small. My question is since it is so old, do they still make hard drives for this type of machine. The reason I'm asking because I had an old IBM AT computer & the hard drive crashed last year. When I took it to the shop to get another one installed, they said they did not make those kind of hard drive anymore.

Reply: (edit)I very highly doubt that you will be able to find a drive for that machine. Keep checking though. Someone might have an idea. :)

Reply: (edit)I very highly doubt that you won't be able to find a drive for that machine. The thing is, as IBM is involved, that it probably doesn't use IDE or something like that, but rather ST506 or some really weird interface made up solely for that computer. But, I guess you don't need like a really huge harddrive, I mean, you aren't going to run Win95 on it, so my advice is first that you find out what hard drive interface you have, and then look around in second hand shops, flea markets, or at www.ebay.com.

Reply: (edit)There is really a whole mess of people out there using old PS/2 machines. There is still a lot of used parts for these machines floating around. At the site below click on the message board link and ask if anyone has a hard drive for sale for your model PS/2. http://www.computercraft.com You should also post here at the Obsolete Computer Helpline http://www.obsoletecomputermuseum.org/helpline/helpline.html

Reply: (edit)I have looked all over for a hard dirve for my model 30. With no luck. The problem is that I dont really know what kind of weird interface it uses. It doesnt use SCSI and it doesn't use IDE. Its some sort of interface that caries the power for that hard drvie as well. One of the options that was suggested to me was to purchase a isa scsi card and get and external drive(s). G'luck Marko
