I am trying to locate the PC Card Director for DOS v 4.07. A thorough search of the IBM site shows downloads starting with v 4.08 which is for Win95; they don't offer any earlier versions. A search of the net results in "Read Me" files only for this version. Does anyone know where I can obtain a copy of this?
You can always use Cardware7 "Cards & Sockets Services" Software for PCMCIA Cards, But I do not believe MS-DOS and compatibles support Hot Swapping:

Older versions of "Cards & Sockets Services" specific to IBM models are sometimes listed under their Drivers Section. Though I believe the SystemSoft version available, like the version incorporated in PC-DOS7 only supports 16bit cards, not 32bit Cardbus.
I hadn't given up yet on the IBM PC Card Director, and found an archived copy of version 4.07 for DOS by backtracking through URL subdirectories on the sites that had the help file for it. I got it loaded, but it doesn't recognize my Xircom card, and Xircom doesn't offer a DOS driver for it.
I looked through the PC Card Support List that comes with the IBM software, and just got a 3Com Etherlink III from Ebay that the documentation says it supports.
I'm not sure if I'll keep the software though, it seems a bit bloated for how much I'll use it; I don't plan on swapping cards all the time, so I may remove the software and just do the 3Com card manually. As it is, it's taking up 124k of conventional memory; that's a lot for something that will sit idle most of the time.
I just realized that the card support selection is dynamic, and can be changed easily by running pcmcustd.exe. By doing this, only as much RAM is used as card support requires. So if I'm only using an ethernet card, I don't need to waste all the memory with support for ATA, SRAM, Flash, etc. sitting idle. So for now, I'll leave the Card Director on.
Now if I could just get all the hardware I need. I have a 3Com EtherLink III ISA card, but the docking station hasn't arrived yet to plug it into. I have a card slot on the laptop, but I just ordered the EtherLink III PCMCIA card today. I wasn't expecting to need to order another card, but the guy I bought the docking station from says he doesn't know where it is now, and it will take a while to find. What's up with that?
