Comment: I am very new to dos and I ran into some terrible trouble, heres what happened. I reformmated my entire C: drive, without making a bootdisk first, dumb me! Then I found one on the internet, and loaded it up, and saved everything to the C: drive verses, the C:\WINDOWS directory, dumb me! Now the prompt keeps asking me, to type the name of the interpreter, e.g., C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM, I keep typing in names and it either says incorrect ms-dos version or it just repeats it's self saying, type in the name of the interpereter, blah blah!!! I can't even get past this part now, I can't reformat, to resave everything, plus when I was copying the files over to the C: drive I gave it permission to overwrite the Command.COM and MS-DOS, I think I totally just ruined my computer. Does anyone know how to fix this problem, I need help bad!!! I will appreciate any and all help!! Thanks Code One

Reply: (edit)Although "copying systems files over to C:\" does make MS-DOS 7.0 or later (but not MS-DOS 6.x or earlier, which doesn't work this way) bootable, I still suggest the standard SYS command since it's more easy-to-use and convenient, especially for DOS newbies like you.
