First, I do not think you can use it on FAT32 partitions. Other than thay, you get UNFORMAT.COM from the DOS directory of MS-DOS
5.0, 6.0 or 6.2--and maybe from 6.22. Then you use SETVER if you are running a different version of DOS such as 7.0. If it will not accept UNFORMAT you will have to use a boot disk from the version with UNFORMAT in it. But you can unformat FAT16 partitions.

First, Fred6008 - Who told you he has a FAT32 partition in the first place?

Tom - Please tell use what version of DOS you are in fact useing.

I then may be able to send you the correct version.

im goin to write an unformat command when im finished undelete...i cant finish undelete however until i figure out how multiple clustered fat directories are linked.

basically if you leave the drive alone, in a few weeks i should have a good beta ready

I need that tool also.
I tried to format my d: partion (NTFS)
When it was finished my e: partion (FAT32) was empty.
Now i have in win2000 a d: partion what is not empty, my e: partion is empty.
However when i check fdisk there is only c: and d:? It's is really strange, cause the size of d: and e: are swapped?
Can anyone help my to get my data on e: back?

This morning i could find unformat.com and i'm very happy on this bec. i thought that this could solved my problem but unfortunately when i run it by typing c:\unformat d: it gives me an error message saying invalid or unspecified drive.(Why it gives me an erro like that?) Do you have any unformat.com that you can give to me so i can restore back my important files? I thank you in advance for your help.
(My D:\ drive was formatted in FAT32)

I need some kind of unformat utility as well. I tried to formate my C:\ drive to clear it before I installed a new OS, and then When it was all said and done, I realized that my D:\ drive was gone. It is a FAT32 drive. Is there something out there I can use to recover my lost data? Thanks,
Todd

The Unformat utility provided with Norton System Works 2002 WILL NOT WORK with NTFS formatted drives (you can format a drive with Windows XP or Windows 2000 as either FAT16 [2GB limit per drive letter], FAT32, or NTFS. NTFS is preferred because it supports the enhanced security, encryption, and compression features of Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Good news! You CAN get an UNFORMAT program for NTFS from a company called bitMart. Go to http://www.bitmart.net/undelete.htm. The free demo recovers files up to 32KB, while the Standard version recovers all file sizes and costs only $30 US. There's also a pro version for about $50 US.

For other options, search Google with the options +unformat +NTFS. You'll find several options.
