Reply: (edit)There is no such thing as a modem driver. Under DOS it is the Communications program that controls the modem. You need to set it up from within each and every program that needs to us it. (The same goes for printers under DOS) Things get a little more easy under Windows 95/98 as it uses a modem .INF file, this is still not a modem driver however, just a list of settings.

Reply: (edit)from the model number, I'd say you have a "Host" or "win" modem, and it cannot be operated under dos. You will need what people call a "hardware" modem, or better yet an external (serial port) modem

Reply: (edit)Techguy, go to yahoo.com and search using the term "modem driver" and see how many people use that term. You may be technically correct about the usage of the term, yet millions of people still refer to it as a modem driver. Defcon256, your HSP WinModem will not work in the DOS environment. You need Windows 9x and at least Pentium 100mhz processor.

Reply: (edit) Most PCI modems are Win modems and very few ISA modems are. I have a Computer Shopper ad in front of me for reference. 3 COM has three kinds of PCI modems. WIN, Voice and Non Win. It leaves the question unanswered whether a voice modem is a Windows modem. Price wise it would seem to be since Win modems go at about half price and the "voice" modem is priced like the Win modem while the non Windows modem is twice as much. To me it seems like a shell game where the customer always loses and gets pushed out of equipment he already possesses. Either the bios won's support the new hard drive size or the ISA slot is going and one now has to use Windows modems getting pushed off non internet billboards altogether. Like everybody told you there is no way to use a Winmodem in DOS. I never personally encountered any drivers for DOS modems, but setup programs would set the comm port and IRQ for you which might seem like installing a driver.
