What is the maximum length for a file`s name under DOS?????

Under "Pure DOS" the maximun file length is 8 characters with a 3 character extension. However, Windows XP only "emulates DOS" I'm not sure what it's limitations are.

Maximum usable unique file name is around 63 or 64 characters. You can have longer ones, but the first 63 or so characters have to be unique in the folder.
