Subject: I can't restart in MS-DOS mode |
Comment: Whenever I select "Restart in MS-DOS mode", either the system reboots or, when I suceed to restart in DOS, the keyboard stops responding after a few seconds. I'm using Win98 with MS-DOS 7.10. What should I do?

Reply: (edit)if you get to dos every time, but then it freezes, then try renaming C:\WINDOWS\DOSSTART.BAT to DOSSTART.OLD or something, then try. when you "restart to ms-dos mode" that gets executed, and may have a buggy program being loaded. - W0rm

Reply: (edit)I am using Win/95 on my system and am using third party manager. I also can't restart in dos mode and I believe it is caused by the 3rd party. However, if you start your sytem and press F8 when it displays "Starting Windows" you can select dos mode from there.

Reply: (edit)first of all, does linux allow you run existing dos/windows programs? the F8 way of temporaryly bootting to dos from windows is the only way. I would trust the "restarting msdos mode" option. if you need dos for a long time you could consider renaming win.com(!) (theres also the msdos.sys way, and other ways!) [All windows does is load up dos, load up config\autoexec and then execute a win command from the dos prompt.]
