I want to reformat my hard disk. But I am having problem. Where can I get boot disk? What is the difference between boot disk and setup disk? Can you please tell me where can I download all Dos 6 boot disk and setup disk for free? My computer always tells me registry backup system and asks me to restart. It continues all the time. That means I can't get in to Windows 98. Can tell me what's the problem with the computer? Another computer is infected with virus. I used the Norton Anti Virus program to get rid of the virus, but couldn't. So, is it advisable for me to reformat the computer? Will the virus still inside? This computer always get infected with virus. Please provide me with the relevant information about the questions I asked you. Thank you.

If you have Windows 98, you may be able to boot your system from the CD itself - select boot from CD rom. If the computer does not have a bootable cd rom drive then go to www.bootdisk.com and get a Win98 boot disk.
Make sure that when you boot with this disk you can see your cd rom drive.
You can then reformat the hard drive, using format /u /s C: /v

Sometimes, viruses can live in hidden areas of the disk that a standard format won't cure. In that case, a low-level format will be the only sure-fire way to get rid of it. You might trash the disk firmware like that, though, I'm told.

There is something between a format and a low level format. That is a format with an early version of MS-Dos such as version 4.00 FORMAT.COM using setver with what ever operating system you are using. This will erase almost everything on the hard drive including some bad sector flags installed by SCAMDISK.
