Thanks Wengier,

I had already read those comments but
still it's not clear for me. Win 98 is installed
then what do I have to do now ?
Must I restart in DOS mode and then install
DOS 7.1 from the boot diskettes that I made ?

Thank you.

The MS-DOS 7.10 Install Disk 1 & Install CD are bootable! Did you read the information below from this page?

http://newdos.yginfo.net/msdos71/index.htm

Quotations from the page above:

"To start to install MS-DOS 7.10, you can just boot your system from MS-DOS 7.10 Installation Disk 1 or MS-DOS 7.10 Installation CD (because they are both bootable if you have made the disks/burnt the CD correctly), and then the installation will begin automatically soon. You may also boot your system from the hard drive (i.e. from Drive C:) which has any version of DOS installed already, or boot from any other MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk (not a MS-DOS 6.x boot disk or so in this case), and then go to Drive A: and type SETUP to start the MS-DOS 7.10 installation."

P.S. More useful information is also available from that page and the technote pages.

First, I don't know why you are trying to "install DOSxx" with windows 98, because Whendox98 already HAS dos running, all you have to do is change one simple file, and your computer will boot to DOS. You can either then type "win" if you want to go onto Whensoz, or you could build a simple menu program.

You can do this by chaning a line in msdos.sys so "bootgui=0" as, for example, here:

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article01-412

and here:

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article02-054

As far as the mentioned webpage, whut the?? The thing just won't load (The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable.....)

Well name you are right.

MS-DOS 7.10 is nothing more than a cleaned up version of WinDOS 7.10 as supplied with Win98se.

That is without the Windows Startup Screen, (You can have a nice MS-DOS 7.10 one if you like) Patched for use with Windows 3x and supplied with the missing DOS utilities Microsoft do not want you to use any more. and a few other nice improvements.

So its up to you. Modify MSDOS.SYS and live with WinDOS 7.10 or install MS-DOS 7.10 It all comes down to what you want to do with it.

As for: http://newdos.yginfo.net/msdos71/index.htm

It seems to work OK for me. The internet is like that you know! Always try again later before you say its a broken link!!
