I have partitioned my hard drive, and then formated it, but now I don't now how to install the CD-ROM, I've got the drivers and I've tried to install them in the hard disk, but the computer doesn't recognize it. What o I have to do?
Thanks.

This site helped me create a floppy boot
disk that allows you to access the CDROM
it depends on the cdrom driver. . .you just replace its name and directory with the one in the example. . .you need it in both autoexec.bat and config.sys. . .see the documenthttp://www.computerhope.com/ac.htm

This program will make floppy to boot from. . .then copy items from config.sys and autoexec.bat files to the ones on the boot drive . . .c:?

If you can locate the Make & Model of CD-ROM (Normaly on a label on side of case) goto: http://www.windrivers.com/company.htm (Forget about the Windrivers bit) and follow link to manufactures site. Most have an installable MS-DOS CD-ROM Driver.
If not download a copy of the Universal IDE CD-ROM Driver from my Resource Pages at:

Cdrom.sys, install.exe, readme.txt; fast loading generic CD-ROM driverWorks for most ATAPI CD-ROM drives. Has installation program
and *complete instructions* for manual install.

install a CD-ROM you have the drivers
Can you use an editor ???
On the driver disk you will find a file that ends with sys for example config.sys. This .sys file should be the software driver for your cd rom.As Mick.C has explained the first 8 letters of the .sys file may tie into the model of the cdrom drive.
Asuming that the HDD is formated and bootable you will need to create a directory called cdrom.
copy the file ending in .sys to the c:\cdrom
copy mscdex.exe to c:\cdromIf the driver disk for the cdrom has the files autoexec.bat and config.sys copy them to c:\
if they don't you will have to use a text editor to create them.if the file himem.sys exist on the driver copy that to c:\.
edit the files config.sys on drive C:\
add the command device=c:\himem.sys
add the command device=C:\cdrom\.sys /d:mscd001
save the file
edit or create the file autoexec.bat
add or alter the command line
c:\mscdex.exe /d:mscd001
save the file
remove and FDD and restart the PC
if all goes well you should have cd rom support.good luck
regards richard

I need to know what the device name would be of a cd drive. The default name every where I go says mscd001, but that doen't work. I have a Creative GCD-R540B drive. Would the GCD-R540B be that name? pleas e-mail me (jake_wilson1@yahoo.com)
Thank You.
