It doesn't seem like the computer has the xcopy command. How do you get it? Could only get into dos mode, can't run windows, need to reinstall.

HI
dont know why you want xcopy to reinstall but xcopy and xcopy32 should be in c:\windows\command . dont think it will copy long file names.
if you are doing a clean reinstall you will need all your hardware drivers and win key code.

Xcopy can copy folders and files inside the folders from one location to another.Use the s switch to make sure you read and copy the folders and subfolders.
xcopy c:\from c:\to /s
If you want to copy the Windows setup to C drive create a folder on C drive and copy the files to it from the CD.Command.com has many commands built into it like copy. There are no subfolders inside the Windows folder on the CD to copy.
md c:\win98
copy d:\win98\*.* c:\win98
Check your paths to see if they match above or not and make name changes if needed. You don't need to use xcopy in this particular case.
Good luck.

Can i use xcopy to copy My Documents from my laptop (Win2K) to my desktop (WinXp)? The space in My Documents file name seems to be the problem.
thanks, Keith
